2025 Porsche 911 is Now a Hybrid

AUTOMOBILES/LIXSR   May 29, 2024

The 2025 Porsche 911 marks a significant milestone with the introduction of a hybrid powertrain, specifically in the Carrera GTS model. This new system combines a 3.6-liter turbocharged flat-6 engine with an electric motor integrated into the 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. The hybrid system adds 54 hp, bringing the total output to 532 hp, enabling the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds and achieve a top speed of 194 mph. The design also features updated internals for the headlights with matrix LED technology, a new taillight design, and a fully digital driver instrument cluster for the first time in a 911.

Performance and Technology

The hybrid system in the 911 Carrera GTS is designed to enhance performance rather than solely improve fuel efficiency. The electric motor within the turbocharger helps speed up the compressor wheel at low RPMs, ensuring quick boost pressure development. The recovered energy from braking and the exhaust is stored in a small 1.9 kWh battery, which adds only 103 pounds to the vehicle’s weight. This setup not only boosts power but also maintains the 911’s renowned driving dynamics. Other technological updates include an engine start button and a standard drive mode selector on the steering wheel.

Availability and Pricing

The 2025 Porsche 911 lineup, including the hybrid Carrera GTS, is now available for order. The Carrera GTS hybrid starts at $164,900, with a cabriolet version priced at $178,200. Deliveries for the Carrera models are expected to begin in the fall, with the Carrera GTS models following by the end of 2024. The non-hybrid models, including the Turbo, Turbo S, and GT3 RS, will continue to be available, with prices ranging from $120,000 to over $241,000 depending on the model.

This hybrid introduction is part of Porsche’s broader strategy to electrify its lineup, with a goal that at least 80% of its vehicles sold globally will be partially or fully electric by 2030. The hybrid 911 represents a critical step in balancing the brand’s high-performance legacy with modern technological advancements.
