The B/1: the Debut Watch from Toledano & Chan

WATCHES/LIXSR   May 13, 2024

The B/1 is the debut watch from the creative collaboration between Alfred Chan and Phil Toledano, who share a deep appreciation for both watches and architecture. This timepiece stands out with its Brutalist-inspired design, drawing heavily from the ‘70s era and specifically the Brutalist architecture of Marcel Breuer’s Whitney Museum. Its unique, asymmetric case shape mirrors the window design of the museum, embodying a mix of art and functionality. Made of stainless steel, the B/1 features a lapis lazuli dial set in a 33.5mm case, without any indices, emphasizing a minimalist aesthetic.

Technical Specifications and Offerings

Underneath its artistic exterior, the B/1 is powered by the Swiss-made Sellita SW100 automatic movement, ensuring reliability with a 42-hour power reserve. The design is complemented by an integrated bracelet that enhances the watch’s sculptural feel, making it not only a timepiece but a piece of wearable art. This design philosophy extends to its packaging, which creatively features a concrete box echoing the watch’s asymmetrical shape, further tying back to its Brutalist inspirations.

Scheduled for release on May 16, the B/1 watch by Toledano & Chan will retail for $4,000 USD and be available exclusively through Toledano & Chan’s official website and the Hodinkee Shop.
